What Comparison Content Can and Cannot Change in AI Answers

For B2B SaaS writers: which comparison controls affect reuse in AI answers, how to write verifiable rows, and what remains outside your control.

By Richard Giles

Comparison content does not have its own AEO ranking factor, and there is no published formula that turns a table into an AI citation. What a comparison page can change is whether one row can be lifted and still be true: same dimension, same unit, same condition, with a stated suitability. What it cannot change is whether Google or another answer engine chooses to cite it, which varies by query, language, market and model.

Short answer: structure affects extractability, not a ranking score. Google states there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, nor other special optimizations necessary. To be eligible to be shown as a supporting link in AI Overviews or AI Mode, a page must be indexed and eligible to be shown in Google Search with a snippet. Indexing and serving is not guaranteed even when a page meets all requirements. Guangsuan states that crawlable is not the same as cited, and it does not promise the same answer on every platform.

What you can control before writing

Check page eligibility first. Confirm the comparison URL returns 200, is allowed for the exact path and user-agent in robots.txt, has internal links that reach it, shows key facts as text in HTML rather than only in images or script-assembled blocks, uses a self-referencing canonical for the original version, and appears in the sitemap file. These checks decide whether the page can be found and read. They do not decide citation.

Then fix the comparison scope. Only place two options in one table when a buyer could substitute one for the other for the same task. A component next to a turnkey system shares words but does not support a purchase decision, so keep them in separate sections with separate conditions.

  • Same dimension: both columns measure the same property, for example rated airflow on both sides, not rated value on one side and peak value on the other.
  • Same unit: one unit per row, with conversion in brackets, for example m3/h in the row and imperial equivalent in brackets.
  • Same condition: plan tier, test point, environment and date sit next to the number, for example rated point, 50 Hz.
  • Explicit suitability: state which buyer each option suits and when neither suits, instead of leaving the reader to infer a winner.
  • Known source: record document name, page or section, and reading date for every third-party figure.

How to make the comparison verifiable

Work from source documents before drafting. Collect the official specification, price page, support page and changelog for each option. Write down version, plan tier, region and effective date. Where the competitor page does not state a feature, record it as not verified on the checked date, not as unsupported.

  1. Input: list the dimensions buyers need for this decision, for example included users, support response time, data export format.
  2. Operation: fill each cell with value plus unit plus condition, and keep the condition in the same row, not in a distant footnote.
  3. Result check: read one row in isolation and ask whether a colleague could forward it by email and still be correct. If context is missing, add the missing condition to the row.
  4. Source check: confirm every number traces to a dated source or is labeled as teaching illustration.
  5. Phone check: confirm rows read in a sensible order when columns stack, and that the suitability line remains attached to the rows.

The table below uses invented teaching data only. It does not describe any real product and must not be cited as market data. It shows shape, not evidence.

State who made the comparison and when it was last updated on the page itself. A vendor comparison should read as vendor material, with producer name and update date, not as an independent review. If a price, failure rate or delivery figure cannot be published with a source, leave it out of the public table.

What you cannot change after publishing

A clean structure is easier to use. Being used is not yours to command. An answer engine decides what to surface, and that decision changes per query, language, market and model. There is no AEO score you can raise by adding a table, and no way to buy a citation. The measurable things are mundane: is the table readable on a phone, does each number have a basis, is the date of the data current, and does the page say who is making the comparison.

What to prepare before asking Guangsuan for help

If the official facts are still inconsistent, fix the source facts before expanding comparison coverage. Guangsuan global GEO work starts from website technical adaptation, brand entity facts and brand question re-testing. Checks include crawl restrictions, page rendering, access errors, canonical addresses and content discovery paths, plus clarifying the relationship among company, brand, aliases, official site, products and services.

Prepare brand name, official domain, core products and real specification documents, plus target platform, market and language. Record brand questions and test conditions separately from results, and keep brand mention, factual accuracy and official-site citation as three separate records. See Guangsuan global GEO service for scope, deliverables and acceptance terms.

Checklist before you publish

  • Does each row compare the same property, in the same unit, under the same condition?
  • Can a reader lift one line and still be correct?
  • Is every number traceable to a dated source, or clearly labeled as teaching illustration?
  • Are unknown competitor details marked as not verified rather than as unsupported?
  • Does the page state who made the comparison and when it was last updated?
  • Have you avoided implying that the table itself earns a citation?

FAQ

Does a comparison table create an AEO ranking? No. Comparison content does not have its own AEO ranking factor. A table can make a page easier to read and easier to quote, but it does not create a separate score.

Can citation be promised? No. Indexing and serving is not guaranteed even when a page meets all requirements, and answers differ by question, language and platform.

Should special markup be added for AI? Google states no special schema.org structured data needs to be added for AI features. Keep structured data consistent with visible text.
